Round Five

21/3/16

20TH PUB CIGAR CELEBRATION!!!

Eight pub night achieved. Hallelujah. 🎆🎉🎊🎆🎈🎈

20. The Jerusalem Tavern, Britton Street.

A favourite on the odyssey so far. Although not strong on beer (the bar is tiny) it's got bags of character. Despite it's diminutive stature, there's some exploration to be done including a rather odd table for two atop the central staircase overlooking the bar. Cartoons and taxidermy adorn the walls.

Beers:

Wye Valley Golden Ale - flat, bittery aftertaste.

19. The Fox and Anchor, Charterhouse Street.

Slim pub split into sections and a long bar. Nice feel to the place. Would be tough getting out of here on a busy night!

Beers:

Sambrook's Junction - bitter and sweet start but smoothing out, dark reddy amber, oaky.

Truman's Blindside - slightly woody, pale, lemony smell, quite bitter.

18. The Butchers Hook and Cleaver, West Smithfield.

A large pub that opens out into two floors and curves around. Tiles floors and large
images of times gone by on the walls.

Beers:

Sierra Navada Pale Ale - light fizz, bitter throughout , dark amber.

Fuller's Spring Sprinter - pointy start, smooth finish, mild, sharp melony.

17. The Bishops Finger, West Smithfield.

A large and open inside with plenty of interesting pictures on the walls. Very stool based. Very grand style bar as well with plenty of choices.

Beers:

Whitstable Bay Organic Ale - fizzy throughout, lemony, malty middle, light red.

Speakeasy Ales Prohibition Ale - dark red, smells sweet, sharp start to smoother finish, pleasant.

16. The Hand and Shears, Middle Street.

A nice slither of a pub. Multi-functional and heavily wood-panelled. Negatives, plastic cafe style table covers. Positives, good beer.

Beers:

Mullen Country Bitter - flat, reddy orange, smooth, blood orange mid flavour.

Theakston Vanilla Stout - very dark, strong vanilla scent, heavy stouty texture, vanilla sweetness throughout, fizzy beginning.

15. The Rising Sun, Cloth Fair.

Nice place, very friendly and tidy. Sadly had to resort to fruity beers.

Beers:

Sam Smith's Organic Apricot - Apricot munch bunch with beer. Pricey.

Sam Smith's Organic Strawberry - Strawberry munch bunch with beer. Pricey.

14. The Old Red Cow, Long Lane.

Pokey and exceptionally busy. After fighting our way to the bar, a surprisingly good choice of ales was present, including chalked on specials. No wonder it's popular!

Beers:

Steigl Goldbrau - slightly sweet, quite bland, refreshing, light and bright, good accompanying a fish and chip supper.

Beavertown Black Betty - dark like the night, lots of body, uncomplicated finish, agricultural, firm, fizzy start.

13. The Masque Haunt, Old Street.

Classic Wetherspoons decor, the beer festival here provides a good solid choice of tap and bottled beers.

Beers:

Meantime Chocolate Porter - hellishly chocolatey, bloody chocolatey, dark, warm, complex, smooth.

Achouffe Brewery La Chouffe - blonde, tastes cloudy and looks it too, smooth, light fizz, sweet.
