Round Twenty Seven

03/04/17

113. The Tea Merchant, Canary Wharf.

More bar-like than pub-like. Fuller's beers at least.

Beers:

Fuller's Southern Star - clear and amber, low head, flavour is all up front but gives way to a slight sourness, lime.

Fuller's Spring Sprinter - clear, amber, bit of head, big, strong, good in the air, flavoursome and smooth, bittersweet, crackly at the start, tinny.

112. The Grapes, Narrow Street.

Historic pub owned by Sir Ian McKellan! Lord of the Rings memorabilia are scattered around, the best of them, Gandalf's staff that appeared in the film is behind the bar.

Beers:

Greene King St Edmunds - pale amber, no head, crackle at the start, very thin bodied, citrusy at the beginning, heavy at the start and light at the end, leaves a light tang on the tongue.

Castle Rock Brewery Harvest Pale Ale - yellow and pale, light head, indistinct aroma, bland, watery, wheaty taste.

111. The Ledger Building, Canary Wharf

Famous for being the Ledger house for imports coming into Canary Wharf. Lovely big space and quite posh central hallway leading to bar on the right and dining on the left.

Beers:

Froth Blowers Brewing Co. Midland Red - dark red, sweet smelling, hint of bitterness, low bodied, smokey middle, bitterness at the end, dark fruitiness possibly blackcurrant, full of midland pride.

Titanic Cappuccino - dark, heady, like sugary coffee smell, sweetness after the initial flavour, tastes like it has a hit of espresso, a strong kick at the end.
