Special guests, The Andy (2) and Angharad's Welsh brew symphony orchestra featuring Nicola.
A quite amazing pub full of intrigue and history that we nearly didn't find. So many rooms, nooks and crannies including the large basement with additional bar. Large wooden benches and keg racks along with portraits of past patrons and creaky floors make the place a real gem.
Beers:
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout - heavy and alcoholic at 7%, main ingredient oatmeal for a heavy oaty texture, hold, dark and handsome.
Samuel Smith's Organic Lager - medium bodied, fizz at the beginning, full flavoured middle and a sharp end, exceptionally drinkable.
109. The Running Horse, Davies Street.
Horsey stuff decorates this pub as you might expect. Nice place though a tad small. Cosy.
Beers:
Marlow brewery Rebellion IPA - dark and woody, cloudy, very little head, mild, nutty, watery, flat, mildly smokey.
Purity Longhorn IPA - golden brown, citrus flavours, fizz disappears quickly, would accompany nuts well, rather tasty.
108. The Clarence, Dover Street.
Nice centrally placed pub with modern decor, good choice of beers and a curiously random portrait of Brian O'Driscoll by the door.
Beers:
Sharp's Two Tides - hint of red colour, mainly amber, malty smell, empty bodied, smooth, no distinct flavour, slight bitterness, wheatiness.
Siren Brewery Half Mast - quite cloudy, dark amber, very bitter, slim bodied, grievous, grapefruit, tails off rapidly like a Baldrick story.
